PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image signal processing unit, which is easy to handle and which outputs by automatically determining the type of an input signal and suitably signal processing the input signal. SOLUTION: The image signal processing unit inputs a component image signal, having an RGB image signal or a luminance signal and a color difference signal as an input signal S1, and processes the picture signal corresponding to the input signal. The processing unit comprises an image signal determining means 2 for determining whether the input signal S1 is always at a high level as compared with a pedestal level, or is capable of being at a low level to thereby determine whether the input signal is an RGB image signal or the component image signal, and a switching circuit 3 as a processing circuit selecting means for selecting an image signal processing circuit according to the determined result of the image signal determining means to automatically determine the input image signal or not and to output the image signal.
