Light emitted through chemiluminescence in a reaction chamber (4) passes through a light transmission window (3) and the majority of light impinges on the photoelectric surface (71) of a multiplier phototube (2) to emit photoelectrons which are multiplied sequentially by one surfaces (79) of dinodes (78a, 78, 78b). A part of light not impinging on the photoelectric surface (71) is reflected on the other surface (77) of the dinode (78a) and returned back to the reaction chamber (4) through the light transmission window (3) thence reflected on the light reflective surfaces (40, 41) in the reaction chamber (4) and exits the light transmission window (3) before impinging on the photoelectric surface (71) of the multiplier phototube (2) to emit and multiply photoelectrons similarly. Since the quantity of light impinging on the photoelectric surface (71) is increased by the light reflected on the other surface (77) of the dinode, faint light emitted through chemiluminescence can be detected.
|
