<p>A layer of diamond-like substance is plated on a product surface by way of carbon deposition in the gas phase under the conditions of reduced pressure, the layer comprising an aggregate of successive sub-layers of diamond-like coating with reduced concentration of contaminants in the interface areas of the sub-layers. The layers are plated in a sealed chamber under pressures lower than atmospheric pressure and under controlled temperature. The method entails first plating a metal sub-layer from a separate stationary source of metal plasma, followed by plating the diamond-like coating on products that are held under floating voltage. Prior to powering each of the metal and carbon plasma sources, the respective plasma flow is completely blocked with a shutter, the plasma source is turned on, and after a predetermined amount of time, the shutter is opened. The coating is particularly suitable for use on dental burs.</p> |
