PURPOSE: Repressors of HIV transcription and methods for repressing the HIV transcription are provided, thereby effectively inhibiting HIV transcription and effectively treating AIDS. CONSTITUTION: The repressors of HIV transcription are fusion proteins of polypeptides or compounds capable of inhibiting the activity of Sp1 and NF-κ B transcription factors or transcription activity of chromatin by compressing it, and polypeptides or compounds capable of recognizing RNA strands around an expression control region or a promoter cis-acting region, in which the polypeptide or compound capable of inhibiting the activity of Sp1 and NF-κ B transcription factors or transcription activity of chromatin by compressing it is at least one polypeptide selected from a) POZ-domain proteins, b) HDAC or transcription inhibiting active region thereof, c) MeCP2 or MBP proteins, d) polycom proteins, and at least one corepressor protein selected from mSin3A, SMRT, and C-CoR, and e) at least one polypeptide selected from the DNA-binding sites of Sp1, Sp2, Sp3, Sp4 or NF-κB. The methods for repressing the HIV transcription comprises inhibiting the transcription of RNA at virus LTR using the fusion protein and inhibiting the virus replication. |
