PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyimide varnish composition which is inhibited from whitening due to moisture absorption during coating film formation and from viscosity change during normal-temperature storage, hence can form a more uniform coating film, and can assure an excellent voltage stability when applied to a liquid crystal oriented film; and a production method for the same. SOLUTION: This polyimide varnish composition contains, as a resin component, a polyimide which is obtained from at least two acid dianhydrides and at least two aromatic diamines, has a wt. average mol.wt. of 50,000-200,000, and is formed by at least two kinds of copolymerization. The solvent of the composition contains at least 50 wt.% anisole.
