<p>A method for cutting a glass rod and a cutting device in which a glass rod for producing a glass base material is cut without causing any crack or break at the root part where the glass rod is grasped. The device for cutting a glass rod (11) into a specified length while grasping the opposite ends thereof, wherein a Y-shaped support (18) is disposed to support the glass rod (11) from below at a position between the opposite ends thereof. The support (18) comprises a carbon sleeve of columnar body arranged to rotate about two leg parts constituting a forked leg part and the carbon sleeve can rotate as the glass rod moves in the axial direction.</p> |
