PLANE FLUORESCENT LAMP UNIT, AND LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY USING THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plane fluorescent lamp reduced in uneveness of brightness as a backlight for a liquid crystal display. SOLUTION: A lower substrate 1 and an upper substrate 2 are opposedly arranged to be bonded, electrode groups A30 and electrode groups B31 are provided in its inside to be divided into two groups different in discharge areas, and electric power is impressed to the electrode groups A30 and the electrode groups B31 to be discharged alternately in the different discharge areas. Since a discharge area is about twice as wide as a conventional one by switching alternately the discharge areas, in this manner, a phosphor is illuminated uniformly over the whole plane fluorescent sheet to reduce the uneven brightness. Brightness of a displaying surface gets uniform by using the plane fluorescent lamp as the backlight.
