PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pointing device with excellent operability, which can be miniaturized and is strong against dust. SOLUTION: In a small-sized portable terminal 1, an optical sensor 4 to read an optical image of a finger brought into contact with it is provided at a lower part of an LCD to indicate information. The optical sensor 4 is provided with a light source to emit prescribed light toward a sensor window, a lens to collect light reflected by the finger brought into contact with the sensor window and an image sensor to detect the collected light. A CPU transfers a pointer based on a motion of the finger to be detected by the optical sensor 4.
