PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data compression circuit that utilizes a feature of compressed data so as to compress the data with a small circuit scale. SOLUTION: A comparator section 8 receives input data 1 in the unit of 8 bytes and compares whether or not all bytes of the input data 1 are identical to each other. The result of comparison is given to a selector section 10. When the comparator section 8 discriminates that all the bytes of the input data 1 are identical to each other, the selector section 10 attaches flag information to the bytes of the identical value and outputs the result as a compression result. On the other hand, when the comparator section 8 discriminates that all the bytes of the input data 1 are not identical to each other, the selector section 10 attaches flag information to the input data 1 and outputs the result.
