PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To visually confirm the contents of a file in advance, using a simple method. SOLUTION: An apparatus for processing information comprises a read unit 6, attached to a replaceable recording medium 10, for recording image information as a file for reading the file information from a randomly accessible first memory 22 for storing the file information regarding a file, a second storage unit 7 for storing the file information read by the unit 6 as a file system, and a virtual file information generating part 8 for automatically generating virtual file information, regarding the virtual file is realized, by being able to handle virtually at least one image information for constituting the file as a single file.
