PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a heat shrinkable polyester artificial hair capable of maintaining fiber properties such as heat resistance, strength and elongation of a usual polyester fiber and having excellent twist resistance and setting properties. SOLUTION: This method for producing the heat shrinkable polyester artificial hair involves carrying the out melt spinning of a composition comprising (A) 80-40 wt.% of a polyalkylene terephthalate or a copolyester consisting essentially of the polyalkylene terephthalate and (B) 20-60 wt.% of a polyarylate, drawing the resultant fiber and then performing heat treatment in two stages.
