Microcapsules (I) comprise a core, containing a water soluble organic substance, and a capsule sheath that is a condensate of formaldehyde resins and/or their alkylethers. Independent claims are also included for: (i) a process for the production of the microcapsules (I) by condensation of the formaldehyde resins in the hydrophilic phase of a water-in-oil emulsion in the presence of a protective colloid; and (ii) polymer compositions comprising 0.1-50 wt.% microcapsules (I) containing water soluble coloring agents or conventional additives.
