PURPOSE: An electron gun for cathode ray tube is provided to improve a background characteristic generated from the first electrode by shortening a time for approaching predetermined current and a stabilization time. CONSTITUTION: An electron gun(200) is formed with three cathodes(3), the first electrode(4) separated from the cathodes(3), and the second electrode(5) from separated from the first electrode(4). A diameter of a hole(42) of the first electrode(4) is 0.3mm. The intensity of an electric field applied to cathodes(3) is strengthened in an initial process for generating electrons by forming a bead portion(41) of the first electrode(4) toward the cathodes(3) and forming a bead portion of the second electrode(5) toward the first electrode(4) in order to induce thermal expansion of the second electrode(5) to the third electrode. A cathode ray tube is normally operated and a constant voltage is applied to a heater(2). The cathodes(3) are expanded toward the first electrode(4). A cathode support body(27) is expanded to an opposite direction of the first electrode(4). The first electrode(4) is expanded toward the second electrode(5). The second electrode(5) is expanded toward the third electrode.
