Inside the airbag are assembly elements (2) each consisting of an upper (5) and lower (6) part connected by stitching (7). Each assembly element has its lower part welded to the interior side of the bag lower face and its upper part welded to the interior side of the bag upper face. During the first inflation phase the bag takes up a significant volume and when the stitching ruptures the second inflation phase is less aggressive. An Independent claim is included for a method of making the airbag.
