PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an edge detecting device which can precisely detect an edge without moving a body to be detected. SOLUTION: A modulator 1 amplitude-modulates a high-frequency carrier signal (a) with a low-frequency base signal (b). An irradiation beam controller 2 generates an exciting signal so as to operate the irradiating beam by an ultrasonic wave transmitter 3 in array arrangement and irradiate the body 4 to be detected with the beam at a proper angle. A low-frequency component detector 7 detects a low-frequency component in a reflected wave beam received by a capacitor microphone 5. An edge position decision part 8 decides the position of the object body and the edge position from the operation angle of the irradiation beam and the position of a transmitter receiver.
