PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an estimating method for easily and highly quantitatively evaluating the average size of micro-voids which form a free volume, on which gas permeation, water permeation, etc., depend, in a high-molecular material. SOLUTION: Macromolecules are filled with gaseous xenon to measure the nuclear magnetic resonance spectrum of xenon nuclei. From an obtained chemical shift value and through the use of the relation between the chemical shift of xenon and an average pore diameter in known porous materials, the average size of the micro-voids which form a free volume, on which gas permeation, water permeation, etc., depend, in macromolecules is easily estimated.
