PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mechanical joint for a thin wall metal pipe including a connection part for a method of inserting the pipe into the joint till a pipe end stops in the joint without conducting grooving or swelling work to the pipe using a special processing machine in a pre-stage of installing the pipe to the joint, in which water stopping effect and coming-off preventive effect are achieved to the connection part by tightening an attached cap nut, and in which corotation of the pipe will not occur when the cap nut is tightened. SOLUTION: This joint comprises a drum 1, an O-ring 2 for stopping water, an O-ring presser 3, balls 4, and the cap nut 5. After the pipe 9 is inserted into the O-ring presser and the O-ring in the connection part, the cap nut is tightened to male threads 8 provided in an outer circumference of the drum. The O-ring presser presses the 0-ring to stop water at an outer surface of the pipe, and an inner surface 11 of the cap nut to get in contact with the balls is composed in such a structure that the balls bite into a pipe wall part for achieving coming-off preventive effect to the pipe.
