PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polycrystalline silicon foamed body from which a very small amount of fine powder generates when the foamed body is crushed for obtaining granular polycrystalline silicon, and to provide a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: The polycrystalline silicon foamed body includes bubbles at its inside and has an apparent density of <=2.20 g/cm<3> , and is obtained by allowing droplets of molten silicon, obtained by melting silicon, to naturally fall in the presence of hydrogen and fixing the bubbles of hydrogen in the silicon droplets within 0.2 to 3 sec.
