The heating device has a fuel feed (12) for supplying the liquid fuel to the burner (24) with a monitoring device (44) for the fuel feed, supplying a signal to a control unit (46) for the heating device. The monitoring device uses an ultrasonic sensor positioned adjacent the fuel feed line (16,18,20,22,24), or integrated within the latter. An Independent claim for an automobile provided with a heating device is also included.
