A gear shift lever operating mechanism, comprising a gear shift lever attached to a shift fork of a manual transmission operating mechanism and slightly projected from the box of the operating mechanism, a gear shift lever moving mechanism using a longitudinal movement link allowing the shift lever to move in longitudinal direction and a lateral movement cam mechanism allowing the shift lever to move in lateral direction, both allowing the gear shift lever to move generally in H-pattern, and an operating mechanism allowing the longitudinal movement link and lateral movement cam mechanism to be moved by operating the operating lever of the gear shift lever moving mechanism in longitudinal direction so as to operate the gear shift lever at least in such a pattern as reverse, neutral, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gear position, whereby a gear shifting to up and down, neutral, and reverse can be surely performed through an excellent controllability by merely operating the operation lever in longitudinal direction even if an operator is not accustomed with the shifting operation. |
