An optical system for producing images S 1 <SP>1</SP> and S 2 <SP>1</SP> of separated objects S 1 and S 2 in the same plane and with the same magnification comprises a front positive lens group L 1 , focal length f, and a rear lens group L 2 constituted by a double focusing system comprising two parts of different focal lengths f 1 and f 2 , the distance between the principal planes of the lens group being equal to f, and the distance between the objects being equal to f<SP>2</SP>(1/f 1 -1/f 2 ). The part of the rear group L 2 of focal length f 2 may be constituted by a parallel sided block, hence f 2 =#, and f 1 =f 2 /#X. In one embodiment, Fig. (not shown) the optical system L 1 and L 2 forms the rear half of a symmetrical optical arrangement, the objects being placed between the two halves, and the front part of the arrangement forming part of an illumination system. In another embodiment, Fig.3 (not shown) light from a source passes through a condenser lens to a semi-reflector from which it is reflected through lens group L 2 and L 1 to the objects. Light from the objects then passes back through groups L 1 L 2 and the semi-reflector to image in the image plane. |
