PURPOSE: A digital broadcasting signal recording device and a method thereof are provided to automatically discriminate a video mode for setting a recording mode accordingly in case of reservation recording, thereby effectively using a video tape. CONSTITUTION: A digital broadcasting signal recording device includes a cassette deck(1) for inserting a video tape, a remaining tape amount detecting part(2) for determining a recordable time of the tape inserted into the cassette deck, a PSIP(Program and System Information Protocol) extracting part(3) for extracting PSIP by receiving digital broadcasting signals, a PSIP buffer part(4) for storing the extracted PSIP information, an EPG information output part(5) for outputting EPG information in the OSD type according to the request of a user, and a recording mode/recording time determining part(6) for computing a broadcasting time zone by reading a start_time and a length_in_second of a current selected event from the PSIP buffer with reference to an event_id value provided from the EPG information output part.
