PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dry type method and apparatus for regenerating a catalyst containing a degraded vanadium compound. SOLUTION: The method of regenerating the catalyst is performed by heating the catalyst containing the vanadium catalyst, the activity of which is degraded by sulfur oxide, in the air at 350-800 deg.C to increase the ratio (5-valent V/total V) of 5-valent vanadium (5-valent V) to total vanadium (total V) to >=65%. The apparatus for regenerating the catalyst is provided with a regeneration furnace having a heating means capable of heating the catalyst containing vanadium, which is packed in a catalyst packing case as it is drawn out from a reaction apparatus and the activity of which is degraded by the sulfur oxide, and a cleaning tower for removing sulfur oxide in a waste gas generated from the regeneration furnace. |
