PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To excellently secure a recording quality on sheets. SOLUTION: A recording head 11 is loaded on a carriage 16 capable of running along a platen 17, and the platen is elastically supported to be freely movable in a direction to approach and separate from the recording head. In a recorder in which the recording head records images on the sheet S transferred between the recording head and the platen, when a recording pattern which degrades the recording quality on the sheet because the platen separates from the recording head depending on a recording operation at a maximum recording speed is to be recorded, a power supply output to be outputted from a power supply unit 31 is set by being adjusted with the use of a variable resistor 32 of the power supply unit so that a head driving voltage supplied from the power supply unit to the recording head inevitably drops to a reference voltage as a basis for temporarily stopping the recording operation by the recording head before the recording quality on the sheet is degraded.
