PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide foreign matter removing equipment and foreign matter removing method capable of making the foreign matter removal effect of foreign matters removal work sufficient while maintaining the automation of this work. SOLUTION: This equipment has a belt conveyor 27 which is disposed between tea manufacturing machines in a tea manufacturing processing line and is capable of changing over a normal operation to convey tea leaves in the direction of this processing line and a reverse operation to convey the tea leaves in another direction, a monitor camera 30 which monitors the tea leaves on the belt conveyor 27 by picking up the images thereof, detecting means 31 which detects the intrusion of the foreign matter from the images picked up by this monitor camera 30 and control means which changes over a drive pulley 27 so as to rotate the pulley backward when the intrusion of the foreign matter is detected by this detecting means 31.
