PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst in which catalytic activity is not drastically reduced, the crack and the wear of the catalyst are prevented and stable operation is made possible while a lower aliphatic carboxylate is manufactured, when the lower aliphatic carboxylate is manufactured from a lower olefin and a lower aliphatic mono carboxylic acid. SOLUTION: The catalyst is used, wherein a catalyst component is carried by a carrier having 39.7-46.3 mass% silicon content or 85-99 mass% silicon content expressed in terms of silicon dioxide or a silicic carrier having >=30 N compressive strength.
