PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a head unit type ink jet output device and a method of assembling and making the head unit wherein a plurality of heads are integrated to be one unit by maintaining accurate arrival function, whereby printing in color, maintenance-free and high resolution printing can be achieved and only the head unit is loaded to the device body, thereby facilitating the replacement operation by a user. SOLUTION: This device comprises the ink jet head Hi consisting of head chip Th wherein a base plate to be a mounting substrate of the ink jet head Hi and an orifice plate 4 having ink ejection nozzles arranged on an edge face at an opening side of a passage which is formed by bonding an element substrate 2 and a top plate 3 are bonded with each other. As each head can be relatively positioned to determine a distance between the plurality of head chips by shifting the chips in the arrangement direction of the nozzles so as to make distances between ink dots to be equal with each other, a reference face of each head abutment section of a frame body 5 to which the head chips Th are inserted are accurately finished by a mechanical processing.
