PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance catalyst efficiency by selecting θ-alumina particle having high heat resistance and high specific surface area as a carrier and depositing catalytic metal super fine particle on the carrier. SOLUTION: A first form of the catalyst for cleaning exhaust gas is constituted of a catalyst particle 10 formed by depositing the catalytic metal fine particle 4b on the surface of the θ-alumina particle 2 by baking. A second form of the catalyst is constituted of a catalyst particle 10 formed by depositing the catalytic metal fine particle 4b and a sintering controlling metal oxide fine particle 6b on the surface of the θ-alumina particle 2 by baling. At least one phase transition preventing element selected from rare earth elements, alkaline elements and alkaline earth elements can be added to the θ-alumina particle 2. The catalyst for cleaning exhaust gas wherein the catalyst particle 10 is fixed to the wall surface 34 of a honeycomb hole 32 of a honeycomb body 30 is also provided. |
