Dry, water-soluble dye crystals are grown from conc.aqs.salt soln. to average length >40 mu, pref. >70-1. Pref. the dye is 1-p-sulpho-phenylazo-2-naphthol-6-sulphonic acid di-Na salt. Pref. salt soln. is adjusted to a s.g. of 14 degrees Baume and crystals grown at 50-60 degrees C for at least 4 hrs. These crystals impart about 50% more colour to dry mixes than same amount of conventional material. They can be used in production of coloured sugar by "suarplating", for use in instant beverage mixes, confections, gelatin dessert mixes, cake decorations, etc. They are also suitable for colouring salt and other granular foodstuffs. |
