PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain advantages as a vertical type unit, such as a small volume and goodness of the uniformity of a screen in spite of a horizontal type having a high degree of freedom in arrangement. SOLUTION: This liquid crystal projector has an illumination optical system, a color separating and synthesizing optical system (color separating means and color synthesizing means), liquid crystal panels disposed in correspondence to the respective separated colors, and a projection lens for projecting a synthesizing light, making displaying color images possible. The liquid crystal panels are so arranged that their short sides exist along a direction where their optical paths are bent in the color separating and synthesizing optical system. An image rotating means which can rotate the image light obtained from the liquid crystal panels by 90 deg. and make the image light incident on a projection lens is disposed between the illumination optical system and the projection lens. |
