PURPOSE: To provide a liquid crystal display with a narrow picture frame area, with excellent uniformity of brightness in a display area of a liquid crystal panel and the assembling work of which is easy. CONSTITUTION: In the liquid crystal display, a liquid crystal panel 2, a chassis 3, a side reflector plate 4, an optical sheet 12, a diffuser plate 5 and a bottom reflector plate 10 are provided. In addition, a plurality of lamp supporting bases 6 in a column along the direction in parallel with the surface of the liquid crystal panel 2 and the respective lamp supporting bases 6 are arranged so as to hold a low pressure side end part 7a of a lamp 7. A return substrate 8 to extend to the arranged direction of the lamp 7 is mounted on the surface to face the liquid crystal panel 2 on the lamp supporting base 6. Furthermore, lead wire 9 is drawn in the direction toward the return substrate 8 from the low pressure side end part 7a, penetrates the lamp supporting base 6 and connected with the return substrate 8. Thus, the picture frame area 14 can be narrowed down.
