PURPOSE: A method of confirming a message using a mobile terminal and a message confirming method using the same are provided to distinguish a corresponding icon of a new message on an initial screen to display the icon, when the new message is not confirmed, thereby immediately selecting the icon on the initial screen. CONSTITUTION: A mobile terminal system confirms whether a new message is not confirmed(S100). If so, the system displays an icon group or an icon corresponding to the new message(S110). If the new message does not exist, the system decides whether an icon selection key is inputted(S120). If so, the system displays the icon group(S110), and if not, the system displays an initial screen(S130). If the new message does not exist, the system decides whether a key is inputted for selecting the icon among icon groups, and if the new message exists, the system decides whether a key is inputted for selecting the icon corresponding to the new message(S140). If so, the system displays a corresponding menu(S150), and displays the message(S160), then converts/stores attributes of the message in a memory as a reading state(S170). If the key is not inputted, the system decides whether a key for confirming the message is inputted(S180). If so, the system retrieves menu trees to display a sub menu(S180), and displays the message(S190), then converts/stores the attributes of the message as a reading state(S170). If the key is not inputted, the system converts/stores the attributes as an unreading state(S210).
