1,046,069. Polyester filaments. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Sept. 1, 1965 [Sept. 8, 1964], No. 36730/64. Heading B5B. . Filaments having a shrinkage of more than 10% are made by extruding a melt of poly (ethylene - 1: 2 - diphenoxyethane - 4: 4<SP>1</SP> - dicarboxylate) or a copolymer thereof, winding the extruded filaments on to a package at a speed of 500 to less than 4000 feet per minute, and cold-drawing the resultant yarn over a pin at a temperature of 60‹-90‹ C. using a draw ratio of 1.25/1 to 2.5/1. A copolyester is defined as a copolyester in which at least 85% of the units are of the formula " Shrinkage " is defined as the reduction in length, expressed as a percentage of original length, when the yarn is immersed, under minimum tension, in water at about 100‹ C. In examples, poly(ethylene 1: 2 - diphenoxyethane - 4: 4<SP>1 </SP>- dicarboxylate) is melt spun at 290‹ C. through a 5-hole spinneret, wound at 1000 or 2000 feet per minute and drawn at various ratios within the specified limits. |
