PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system for selectively designating data routing within a fiber channel arbitrated loop. SOLUTION: The system includes an intra-loop router (40) that is configured to be coupled between a 1st segment (34) and a 2nd segment (36) of the fiber channel arbitrated loops (32, 34, 36). The intra-loop router (40) includes a router controller (66) configured to be coupled with the 1st and 2nd segments (34, 36) and a processing system (60) coupled with the router controller (66). The processing system (60) is configured to receive fiber channel frames and cause those frames to be re-transmitted onto a selected one of the 1st and 2nd segment (34, 36) of the fiber channel arbitrated loops (32, 34, 36).
