PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To restrain heat radiation from a fixing roll or a fixing belt and heat transfer to other members at the time of warming up a fixing device, to shorten the warming-up time and to reduce the power consumption in a fixing device using an electromagnetic induction heating device. SOLUTION: The fixing roll 1 consists of a conductive core bar, and the electromagnetic induction heating device 3 is arranged at a position where it is opposed to the fixing roll 1. At the time of warming up, the roll 1 is rotated at lower speed than at the time of performing ordinary fixing operation, and a pressure roll 2 is separated from the roll 1. After the roll 1 is heated by the device 3, it passes through a position where it is opposed to the roll 2 without coming into contact with the roll 2. Therefore, the heat is prevented from being transferred from the roll 1 to the roll 2. Since the speed at which the surface of the roll 1 comes into contact with the ambient air is low, the quantity of heat radiated from the roll 1 into the air is restrained.
