PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase the low temperature startability of a fuel cell. SOLUTION: Anode electrodes 2 and cathode electrodes 3 are installed on both sides of solid polymer electrolyte membranes 4, and reaction gas passages A1, A2, C1 and C2 are provided on the outside of the electrodes to form a cell 5. Electric heaters 33 are installed in coolant passages R in the partial areas of the power generating surfaces of the cell 5. When the fuel cell is started at a low temperature, the electric heaters 33 are turned ON to locally heat the cell 5 for local power generation. |
