PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for performing a certain file system access operation from outside of a file system while maintaining a file system hierarchic structure. SOLUTION: This invention relates to a method for accessing a data storage device 203 controlled with an array controller process 300 related to a file system process 308. The method includes a step determining if a received file system access operation request specifies an operation including a branching off operation, a step branching off the branching off operation from the file system process 308 relating to the data storage device to the array controller process 300 if the file system access operation request specifies operation including a branching off operation, and a step renewing a file system data management structure according to operation result information from the array controller process 300.
