PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inexpensively provide the display element of a large picture. SOLUTION: Display element single bodies provided with substrates where electrodes for display are formed on surfaces and that distances from a pair of confronted end sides of the substrates to display areas formed on the substrates, preferably, distances from the other end side to the display areas are equal, are used, and they are joined at the end faces. Then, the liquid crystal element of a large area is obtained.
