PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color image information processing method for eliminating/ recovering a set-off image by the edge intensity method, that can process image information at a speed equal to that of a preceding example, without the need for sophisticated processing capability, when obtaining an edge enhancement histogram and a threshold. SOLUTION: In order to process the image information without the need for sophisticated processing capability and a large scale memory or the like, an object original read image I is divided into partial areas, edge intensity distribution is taken by each partial area, and a threshold is tentatively decided in order to classify edges of an image I into a set-off image and a non set-off image, depending on the distribution. In order to relax discontinuity at the borders of the partial area capable of being generated, when the tentative threshold is used as it is, an applied threshold that is calculated by applying weight averaging to the tentative threshold of a target partial area s(m,n) and adjacent partial areas s(u,v) is used for each area. Since the original read image I is received in x, y scanning directions shown in Figure 4, the adjacent partial areas s(u,v) are set to areas shown in dots in the Figure.
