<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an xDSL modem that can automatically collect characteristics of a subscribe line connected to the xDSL modem, prior to start of a high-speed communication service. SOLUTION: The xDSL modem used or digital communication through a subscriber line 102 which ties an exchange 101 and a subscriber terminal and is provided with a digital transmission means 105 conducting the digital communication, using a data signal separated from a speech signal and an analog control signal used for phone communication using an analog transmission means 106 by a splitter 104, is provided with an evaluation means 111 that evaluates the transmission characteristics of the subscriber line 102, on the basis of the result of reception of a signal by the exchange 101 via the subscriber line 102, prior to the start of the high-speed communication service and with a report means 114, that transmits the transmission characteristics obtained by the evaluation means 111 to a network via the analog transmission means 106.</p> |
