PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To appropriately control the running speed of a magnetic tape even when a sliding occurs in a running system of the magnetic tape. SOLUTION: This controller for controlling the driving of a capstan motor 16 by taking into consideration the rotation phase and rotation speed of the capstan motor 16, is provided with a head 25 for detecting the rotation phase, an FG 17 for detecting the rotation speed, and a speed corrector 22 for correcting a speed reference value 23 to be a reference of the rotation speed on the basis of the detected rotation speed.
