A synthetic surface having a flexible, porous, backing member and parallel rows of synthetic ribbons projecting upwards, representing blades of grass. The ribbons are bound to the backing member by rows of coating material overlaying the rows of ribbons. The coating materials are spaced apart to provide uncovered areas of backing member to improve drainage.
