Methods for administration of antibiotics

Methods for administering a therapeutically effective amount of daptomycin while minimising skeletal muscle toxicity. The methods involve administering daptomycin at a dosing interval of 24 hours or greater and at a concentration of 7-75 mg/kg. This long dosing interval minimises skeletal muscle toxicity and allows for higher peak concentrations of daptomycin, which maintains daptomycin efficacy. Also described are pharmaceutical compositions for use in this method. Further described is the use of a lipoprotein antibiotic in the manufacture of a medicament for treating a bacterial infection in a human involving the described method of administration.
