PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus whose productivity can be improved. SOLUTION: A latent image is formed on an image carrier 112 by performing exposure to the image carrier corresponding to image information with an exposure means 22 and afterwards, a sheet S carried by a carrying means 106 for carrying the sheet S to a transfer part P is detected by a sheet detecting means 21 arranged between the transfer part P for transferring an image, which is formed by developing this latent image, onto the sheet S and the carrying means 106. Then, a control means 24 for controlling driving of the carrying means 106 and starting the exposing operation of the exposure means 22 on the basis of the detecting signal of the sheet detecting means 21 stops the carried sheet S before the sheet detecting means 21 until it is judged the exposure by means of the exposure means 22 can be started on the basis of a judge signal from a deciding means 23 for judging whether the exposure by means of the exposure means 22 can be started or not before the sheet S carried by the carrying means 106 reached the sheet detecting means 21. |
