PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic EL display device avoiding crosstalks, quickening the rise of a forward bias voltage to achieve high brightness, and preventing formation of bright lines due to short circuits of some of pixels. SOLUTION: An organic EL element 1 for use in the organic EL display device has organic EL stacks 3a and 3b. The organic EL stacks 3a and 3b are approximately rectangular and combined to form one approximately square display pixel. The stacks are connected in series with each other. The organic EL display device using such organic EL elements reduces leakage currents, thus avoiding crosstalks. Because the capacitance of the device is small, it starts up quickly, achieving high brightness. Further, the device prevents a decrease in overall display quality due to bright lines which may be caused by short circuits of some of the organic EL stacks.
