PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data managing device capable of managing the data utilized in a network efficiently. SOLUTION: A home gate way 1 is connected to a home network 2 and the Internet 3. A digital TV 4-1, digital recorder 4-2 digital cameras 4-3, PC 4-4 and 4-5 are connected to the home network 2. A part of these devices has an internal storage. A server device 5-1 having an external storage to provide a data storing service is connected to the Internet 3. The home gate way 1 manages the management information such as the available capacity of the devices having the internal storage or external storage. The home gate way 1, when receiving a data storing demand, refers to the management information and selects a device to be used for data storing based on a specified selection standard.
