PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide telephone system which is provided with a function which prevents a handset from being released from a telephone set main body due to application of an external force. SOLUTION: When a user takes up a handset 1 from a placing part 14 of a telephone set main body 2 at start of transmission and reception, a pressing-in lever 3 is pressed in against the spring force of a spring 7 by fingers of the use, and a slide bar 5 is moved in the direction of an arrow X, and a holding piece 6 is turned counterclockwise around an engagement point C, and press- holding of the handset 1 by the holding piece 6 is released, and the aperture of an aperture part 13 is widened so that the handset 1 can be smoothly taken up from the telephone set main body 2. When the user hooks the handset 1 on the telephone set main body 2 after the end of transmission and reception, a reception part 1a of the handset 1 presses in the holding piece 6 by a slide curved surface 6a, and the holding piece 6 is slightly turned counterclockwise around the engagement point C against the spring force of the spring 7, so that the handset 1 can be smoothly put on the placing part 14.
