PURPOSE: Provided are cyclopropane derivatives useful in the preparation of antiviral agents and the like, and methods of preparing such derivatives. Also provided are the intermediates useful in preparation of such derivatives. CONSTITUTION: Provided are methods for preparing (3-oxo-2-oxobicyclo£3,1,0|hexan-1-yl)methanol of the formula(1) as useful novel starting materials in manufacturing cyclopropane derivatives of the formula(3), as well as the intermediates useful for the manufacture thereof. The cyclopropane derivatives of the formula(3) are useful for the manufacture of compounds of the formula(12) having excellent antiviral activity.
