PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To highlight an edge of a video signal by removing an influence of waveform characteristics deformed by an analog signal processing or the like while using a small-scale hardware. SOLUTION: The apparatus 20 for highlighting the edge of the video signal comprises a filter 51 for extracting a high-frequency component of a horizontal direction from the video signal, a rise/fall detector 52 for detecting the rise part and the fall part of the horizontal component of the video signal, and a waveform balancer 53 for generating a highlight signal for highlighting the original video signal by multiplying a gain by the high-frequency component extracted by the filter 51. The balancer increases the gain larger than one times when the video signal is the rise part and the high-frequency region is positive, and decreases the gain to one time or less when the video signal is the rise part and the high-frequency component is negative. The balancer decreases the gain to one time or less when the video signal is the fall part, and the high-frequency component is positive and increases the gain to one time or more when the high-frequency component is negative. |
