PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a music recorder wherein user can obtain the remainder state of a recording medium corresponding to an encoding system and easily select the encoding system. SOLUTION: A plurality of pairs of remainder states of the recording medium corresponding to the encoding systems and the encoding systems are simultaneously displayed on a display device 5 and a controller 6 interlocks the selection of the pair of the encoding systems and the remainder states on the screen of the display device 5 and the control of a selection device 4 to select the encoding system.
